When Wordmetrics first launched it answered a pressing need: By the late 20-teens the search landscape began to radically transform as Google released a series of new, groundbreaking machine-learning algorithms called Rankbrain and BERT.

These algorithms did what previous incarnations of Google Search couldn’t do: They could increasingly “understand” content, making qualitative judgements on readability, topical completeness, sentiment and more.

Many publishers were left scrambling. The old “keywords” approach to SEO optimization had evaporated. Google’s algorithm changes were resetting the search landscape and catching most SEOs, publishers and web professionals (myself included) off-guard.

Building Wordmetrics’ UI was well within my wheelhouse, but back then I knew very little about semantic analysis, entity recognition, vector spaces and matrix reduction. After spending many long nights with my nose buried in code, Wordmetrics was born. The initial MVP was a tangled mass of spaghetti code, but it worked.

The initial market reaction was better than I had hoped. Wordmetrics’ early roster of subscribers included dozens of SEO teams and content marketers at top hotel chains, public relations firms and real-estate platforms.

Since 2018, Wordmetrics has continued to refine and improve its unique blend of AI-powered SEO and content optimization.

Today, Wordmetrics is increasingly used in house by content marketing firms, who re-sell optimization services to their clients.
